One Day workshop on the theme of Recent Trends in Mass Media was organized on 09/09/2021 jointly by the Department of Electronic Media and the Department of Journalism & Communication, in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of our institution.
The workshop was planned in line with the syllabus prescribed for the students of Media Studies. Apart from getting hands-on experience, the workshop provided a good exposure to the world of media and helped motivate the students to take up creative work.
The workshop aimed at bringing together Radio, Film, and Social media professionals to share and interact on recent trends in Mass Media, focusing primarily on Radio Jockeying, Filmmaking, and the booming social media. Three different sessions on these lines were conducted.
The inaugural session was presided over by Principal Dr. S. Thirumagan, Vice-Principal Thiru. Samuel Sampath, and the Dean (in-charge) School of Media Studies Dr. Illanjiam.
Dr. Jayaprakash D, the Head (in-charge) of the Department of Electronic Media and Department of Journalism & Communication, and welcomed the gathering. Our Principal, Dr. S. Thirumagan, presented the Presidential Address.
The chief guest for the inaugural session, Mr. Jaguor Thangam, an eminent Stunt Choreographer, Producer, and Director from the Tamil film industry delivered a speech on the theme of The Art of Action. With more than a thousand movies to his credit, and four State Awards recognizing his talent as a stunt coordinator, Mr. Jaguor Thangam’s perceptions and views on Film Making were wonderful to listen to.
The Second session Sound - The Rhythm of Life was about Radio Production. RJ Keerthana Pasupathy, a well-known Radio Jockey from Suryan FM threw light on Radio Jockeying. It was an interactive session, with students taking part actively. The RJ clarified the doubts posed to her by the students and made the session very lively.
The Valedictory Session was presided over by our Director, Dr. Susan Marthandan, and Principal Dr. S. Thirumagan. While Principal Dr. S. Thirumagan welcomed the gathering, our Director, Dr. Susan Marthandan delivered the Keynote Address. The Chief Guest for the Valedictory Session was Mr. Vishan V, a Journalist from Galatta Channel who spoke on the theme of The Power of Social Media. He is a multifaceted personality donning the cap of a Journalist, Television Anchor, and Storyteller. He kept the audience engaged with his thoughtful views on Education, Knowledge, and the emerging of Social Media as a powerful tool of media.
All the three Chief Guests were honoured with shawls and a memento.
The workshop, therefore, covered various nuances of Electronic and Digital Media and the current trends in the industry. It provided students insights into a range of creative approaches and technical skills practiced in this rapidly evolving field.
